Happy Father’s Day!

Happy Father’s Day!

Fathers play many important roles within the family. First of all, the word "father" in the Bible means "life-giver".  In Biblical times, most people believed the husband carried everything that was needed for creating a child. We know otherwise today, but the idea of fatherhood remains strongly to creating new life, children.

The idea of a father abandoning his children was and should be unthinkable. Like most fathers today, fathers have always worked hard to provide for their families. This is how many men show their love for their families. Most fathers experience the sad paradox in which they work long hours to provide for their families, and in so doing, they cannot be with their family because of his long work hours. Each husband tries to work out this ongoing dilemma.

In Proverbs 31 fathers and husbands are important role

models within the family. In public and in front of his children, he praises his wife and calls her "blessed". "Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all!" A father shows his children the respect their mother deserves.

In Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, he reminds husbands that they are to "love your wives, as Christ loved the Church and gave Himself for her!" Wow, the pressure is on! Being a father is a high calling!

Even as an adult, Jesus cried out to His "Daddy" at the time of His crucifixion. There are times when we all need our "daddies". May you be the type of father to whom your whole family looks up to—like the Son did to His Heavenly Father!
